Privacy & analytics

DNA counts visits to this website so we can see which projects and design books people enjoy, and improve the site. We do it ourselves, on our own server. Nothing is sent to Google, Facebook or any advertising or analytics company.

What we count

• Which pages and sections of the site are opened, and for how long they are actively used (time while the page is visible and you are interacting with it; a tab left in the background is not counted).
• Which design books are opened, how far people read, and which pages hold attention.
• Whether a visit led to a WhatsApp, phone, email or contact-form enquiry (we count that it happened, never what was written).
• General device information: phone, tablet or computer; browser and system family (for example Chrome on Android); screen size band.
• Where a visit came from (for example Google, a QR code or a shared link) and the country, only if our hosting provides it.

What we never collect

• Your name, email address, phone number or anything you type into the contact form, as part of statistics.
• Your IP address. It is not stored with statistics. A scrambled version is used for a few minutes only, to block automated flooding, and then deleted.
• Your full browser identification string, fingerprints, or advertising profiles. No cookies are used for statistics.
• Anything that is shared with, sold to or processed by a third party.

How it works

Your browser makes up a random code and keeps it on your device. It lets us tell a new visitor from a returning one. It is not linked to you as a person. If you opt out, the code is deleted from your device immediately and nothing more is recorded.

How long we keep it

Detailed event records are deleted after 90 days. Summaries without any personal details are kept for up to two years so we can see trends.
